Retired Residence Permit as from EUR 1,200/USD 1,400
The non-citizen needs to make an initial transfer of at least USD 1,500 or its equivalent in freely convertible foreign currency to his/her local bank account in Mauritius.
During the ten-year validity of his/her residence permit, it is a requirement that the retired non-citizen should transfer at least USD 1,500 or a total of at least USD 18,000 or its equivalent in freely convertible foreign currency annually.
At the end of each year, the proof/evidence of these transfers of funds into their local bank account should be submitted to the Economic Development Board.
Right of the retired non-citizen to Invest
The holder of a retired residence permit can invest in any business provided that he/she is not employed by the business, does not manage it and does not earn a salary or any employment benefits from it.
Note: The Retired Non-Citizen should also provide information on other residences that he/she may have in other jurisdictions, including tax residences. This information will be shared with the Mauritian Tax Authority to be in line with the prevailing Common Reporting Standard (CRS) adopted by the Republic of Mauritius.
Investor Occupation Permit as from EUR 1,500/USD 1,800
The holder of an investor occupation permit shall enjoy all the fiscal benefit of Mauritius. As defined under the Immigration Act, an Investor is a shareholder and director of a company incorporated in Mauritius under the Companies Act 2001. There are 2 options for an investor to apply for an occupational permit:
By making an initial transfer of USD 50,000 or its equivalent in freely convertible currency in the bank account of the company under which the application will be made.
If the Investor's company – existing or inherited – has a net asset value of at least USD 50,000 or its equivalent in freely convertible foreign currency, as well as a cumulative turnover of at least MUR 12,000,000 during the three years preceding the application. To renew an investor occupational permit, the company should generate a minimum gross income of MUR 4,000,000 per year, as from its third year of registration.
Professional Occupation Permit as from EUR 1,000/USD 1,300
The holder of a professional occupation permit, together with his/her family, shall enjoy the low individual income tax that prevails in Mauritius.
A professional, as defined under the Immigration Act, is an expatriate who is employed in Mauritius through an employment contract and should earn a monthly basic salary of at least MUR 60,000.
In certain sectors, such as Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), pharmaceutical manufacturing and food processing, the monthly basic salary should be at least MUR 30,000.
An application for a short-term occupational permit for a period not exceeding nine months can also be obtained by the professional. However, this occupational permit may be extended only once, for a period not exceeding three months.
Right of a professional to Invest
A person who holds a professional occupational permit can invest in any business provided that he/she is not employed by the business, does not manage it and does not earn a salary or any employment benefits from it.
Provided the holder of the occupational permit is not a majority shareholder, he/she may hold shares in a business where he/she is employed.
Young Professional Occupational Permit (YPOP)
As provided in Section 13 of the Economic Development Board Act 2017 and Section 9A of the Immigration Act 1970, foreign students having completed at least an undergraduate degree in a tertiary education institution in Mauritius is eligible to apply for a YPOP. Depending on the duration of the employment contract this permit is valid for a maximum of three years.
Self-Employed Occupation Permit as from EUR 1,500/USD 1,800
The Self-Employed Occupation Permit is granted to one who operates a one-person business activity and is working exclusively on his/her own. The permit holder shall enjoy all the advantages of the business environment of Mauritius.
A self-employed person is referred to as a non-citizen engaged in a professional activity under the services sector only and registered with the Registrar of Businesses under the Business Registration Act.
The person is required to make an initial transfer of USD 35,000 or its equivalent in freely convertible foreign currency to his/her local bank account in Mauritius.
As from the Company's third year of registration and to renew his or her permit, the self-employed person's business activity should annually generate MUR 800,000.
Dependents of an Occupational Permit Holder (EUR 300/USD 370 per dependent)
The dependents of an occupation or residence permit holder are eligible to apply for a residence permit. Dependents are defined as the occupational or resident permit holder's spouse (including common law partner of the opposite sex), parents and children (including stepchildren or legally adopted children under 24 years old).
Note: Application for a residence permit cannot be submitted online. Application for a dependent permit is submitted after obtaining the OP by the main holder, at the Passport and Immigration Office (PIO).

The trade license is a card bearing the classified trade, the address of the trade and the business registration number. Classified trade means a business specified in the Twelfth Schedule of the Local Government Act 2011. The registered trader should then call at the relevant local authority for payment of the trade fee according to the classified trade.
Taxes in Mauritius have been simplified to a unique rate of 15%, with no ceiling, known as a flat tax. Therefore, you will never have to pay more than 15% taxes. The value-added tax is also at 15%. The Republic of Mauritius has set up double-taxation agreements with the several countries which means that the same revenue cannot be subject to taxation more than once in either jurisdiction.
To benefit from the tax benefits of Mauritius, you have to be a tax resident and there are two ways to achieve this; the first is to obtain the Mauritian nationality and the second is to have a residence permit.
